Bringing the Wilderness to the Classroom
|
Safari-In-A-Box introduces youth to the important concepts of habitat, wildlife management and impacts resulting from human and wildlife interactions. The kit contains workbooks and lesson plans for using the pelts, skulls and replicas of feet and scat to teach students about animals and their and their habitat. The chapter has donated the Safari-In-A-Box to schools in Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and Washington D. C. At their request we have also contributed these excellent teaching tools to the Smithsonian Institution. Please see the Recipient list below.

The National Capital Chapter, (pictured left) represented by John W. Floyd presented a Safari in a Box to the National Cathedral School. The National Cathedral School is an independent, Episcopal day school for girls. Located in Washington, D.C., the school offers a rigorous academic program for grades 4 through 12.
Tawana Purnell, Director of the school, accepted the Safari in a Box on behalf of the school. Also in attendance was Bridget Williams, grade 4 and 5 science teacher, and Pamela Kogan, grade 6 science teacher.
Under the guidance and leadership of John Floyd the National Capital Chapter has become a leader in the Safari in a Box Program. We are in the process of distributing more boxes and would be glad to hear suggestions for worthy receipients. Below is a list of recent recipients.
